This short, beginning unit acclimates students to the classroom and the video-game theme. They select an avatar that is posted on the wall. As they complete activities, they build points toward completing the world; these points are in a graph on the wall.
The "read aloud" is Game On: The Stream Team , which is a novel about a group of teens who team up to win at a video game.

This unit focuses on the life skill of cooking while melding ELA, math, science, and social studies into the activities.
Through four levels, students will use a microwave, stovetop, and oven to make a variety of foods, culminating in designing a cookbook for elementary students and hosting a meal for them.

This unit has students reading a graphic novel and then writing one of their own.
